THE ANGEL JOURNEYS

It's funny when I purchased these Curious Angel wood kits from Paper Whimsy, I knew just what I had in mind to do with them. The first one was right on course with what I imagined and then all of the SUDDEN, my Curious Angels  took a different turn. One of them turned into Frida and the other one, My Muse!  I must admit it's very difficult for me to stay on course when I am creating. Once I have completed an idea, another one is following right behind it. I am not sure how Frida and My Muse got in there, but I'm kind of loving them!  It just goes to show you that you never know where you are going when you just let go!

This angel was inspired by a challenge from the Relics and Artifacts group on Facebook using one of Sandra Evertson's designs.

She is called: Grace , the GR on the heart stands for "Grace Received".
Her face is from Retro Cafe Art Gallery. I love the variety of faces and other images there. Another one of my favorite go to places.
For the hanger, I used part of a vintage rosary necklace which I think really adds to the angel.

And then Frida took over.....  I had this Frida face from Retro Cafe Art Gallery (as well as the words on her skirt) that I was dying to use and that's where it all started.

 She is always irresistible
to create with. I love so much about Frida.

She is hand painted with added collage work and stands freely.
I added these words on her skirt which reflect a lot about Frida and how I felt making her.
"And suddenly she knew something, and it made her feel wonderful about life itself"

Then this happened! She was just as much fun to make as the others, but she really stole my heart. She is full of zetti and whimsy and is completely fearless. The words on her skirt are from CrowAbout Studio B which says: " Honor the Truth" and her apron says: "Take you where it will". She was totally inspired by this:

A round wooden piece of advertisement from a cigar box that was gifted to me by a friend. I left the edges on the back with the original wording and then added my own in the middle that says: "Enjoy the Journey", and I did.

She made me smile and my eyes sparkle so I named her "Twinkle" (artful words from Crowabout Studio B.

Thank you for being here today and sharing in my angel journeys!

Much Love, and "Twinkle, Twinkle"

GIVING THANKS

It's probably one of the busiest times of year, preparing for Thanksgiving, making arrangements and plans for Christmas around the corner, shopping, planing, meal and merry making... and lots of unfinished projects hoping to get completed by Christmas. It's also the time of year that I make a myself a promise to lay down my brushes and paint, to say "yes" to somethings and "no" to a lot of things. I stop everything to pay more attention to my surroundings, to my family and my friends that are so important to me. To speak to neighbors and to "notice" the flood of blessings that cover me daily. I don't want to be too busy to "notice" and to say Thank you for what others do for me and how people care for me, even down to the mail person and the checker at the grocery store. It's important to me to stop and "notice" what a blessed life I have and those that help to make that possible.

If you are here, then you are my friend and/or you care what I have to say or share and for that, I "Thank You" for reading, for commenting, for being a part of a community that supports each other.

Thanksgiving will come and go quickly, but I will do all I can to slow it down, to enjoy it, to speak to friends, to give hugs, to share smiles, to be eternally grateful for this time and quiet reflective moments....before the rush of the Christmas holidays are full blown.

From my grateful heart to yours,
Kim~*

RE-PURPOSE your VINTAGE ORNAMENTS

Years ago rummaging through antique shops, I came across a women who was moving out of her space that she rented in a little hidden treasure antique shop. She graciously told me to feel free to look at her items as she was packing them up. To the side I noticed a pile of what looked like paper and boxes that might be going to the trash and on top of the pile sat two card board boxes of vintage Christmas ornaments. She said they never sold, she had no use for them and for $4.00, the two boxes were mine. Some have been broken and just worse for wear, but the ones left have been calling me for a new life.
They were old and faded and I could imagine that they were full of stories and memories.

I didn't collect them, but I couldn't stand to see them thrown out. I have used them several times on my tree through the years and I have cherished them like old friends.

This year I made the decision to permanently display them on a wreath that could be enjoyed every year regardless of the dressings of my tree.

They were quite easy to make and when Christmas is over, I will tie a trash bag over them and hang them in my garage for safe keeping.

Not to jump ahead of Thanksgiving, which I absolutely love,.... but if you haven't noticed, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.....
 To be continued after Thanksgiving!

MATCHBOOK SWAPS

Today I finished up matchbooks and have them all ready to mail out for some swaps I am participating in.

They started out as blank matchbooks that you can order from Amazon in a box of 50.

The first thing I do is my backgrounds, then I go back and add images

After the images, I paint the front bottom tab black to use as a background for writing or adding printed words. Then I add washi tape to the tops and the back. There are many ways to alter matchbooks, you just have to add your own style.

Matchbooks are fun to make and don't require a lot of time, unless you are making 50 of them. They are fun to trade with other artists and I especially love leaving them places around town and restaurants for others to enjoy. On the inside flap, I write my Etsy shop.

Thanks for stopping by, I hope you didn't forget to set your clock back!

ART PADS

It all started with this mat I purchased from Teesha Moore.
It is not as big as a standard place mat and it's much larger than a coaster, which is one of the things I truly love about it. Once I received it, I knew I wanted a bazillion of them all over my house. The perfect  size for drinks and other things, great for my studio work table, coffee table, breakfast bar, night stand, all over the house and yet still perfect to set a plate on for the dining or kitchen table.  I also knew that not being independently wealthy, a "bazillion" of them would cost me a fortune, so then . . .

This happened. . .

I am not great seamstress by any means and sewing alone proves to be a great challenge for me as my machine and I are still quite foreign to each other. The best thing about these  Art Pads  is that they don't have to be perfect. I actually love them with all their little imperfections; not all lines are straight, some have little strings here and there and if you mess up too bad on your lines, the more you sew on them the better they look. They were actually a JOY to make with each one being different and unplanned, just putting pieces of material together as I went.

I like to surround myself with things that inspire me and make me happy. These Art Pads are colorful and imperfect, a lot like a collage (Inspiring). Useful, and reminds me of journal pages (Happy).

Teesha encouraged me to try making them. I am pretty proud of them since my sewing machine is still quite foreign to me. I do love the results and it is a lot like doing a fabric collage.

Thank you for stopping and I hope you do something YOU Love today!

BIRDS OF ANOTHER FEATHER

My birds are singing songs of Joy and so am I. More orders are flying in and Zetti birds are hatching all over my studio! No complaints here, I love and adore making them.
When I think of Zetti, I think of magical, whimsical, other worlds, possibilities, childlike fun, and of course Teesha Moore, my Zetti hero.  It wasn‘t until I first saw Teesha Moore’s art that I knew there was a name for the kind of art that “doodlers” do when their mind is allowed to roam free. I have always found it very hard to sit still if my mind is not completely absorbed in what I am doing. So when I find myself in an environment where I must sit still and quiet, I am most likely drawing and doodling on whatever paper I can find in front of me. When I first learned of the art of Zetti, I was mesmerized and completely in love with this magical playground.

“Zetti Birds are birds of another feather”. I never duplicate any of my work, and most of my Zetti birds will always have a spot somewhere on their perch where I can write an encouraging quote or scripture.  It’s certainly my desire that my Zetti bird assemblages will be admired for the amazing art of Zetti , but I hope they will also bring encouragement, inspiration and joy to the receiver of  them. The world is definitely a changing place and every day I see people who are tired, their bags are heavy, their load is big and that can sometimes make you feel very small and insignificant.  I have learned by sharing my art with others that “Little things are truly BIG”.

Some of these birds are available in my Etsy shop and some are flying to a new home. More birds are nesting on my work table waiting for completion and will be flying out to new destinations very soon.

More random Fall posts coming... I hope your Fall is beautiful, full of good change and Joy!
